Wordless Wednesday

This is one of my favorite pictures of Cecilia from our recent vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (taken by husband).

New Month, New Me?

The summer is almost over and I am sorry to see it go.  I love summer, I love going to the beach, family barbecues, margaritas with friends and when the Delaware State Fair comes to town.  One thing I love, but also hate is the food associated with those places, after a day on the beach I love going to the boardwalk and eating Thrashers french fries filled with tons of vinegar and ketchup.  At family barbecues I can guarantee that I will have second helpings of my mom's potato and pasta salads. They may have the word salad in the title, but it doesn't make them healthy.  And then the Delaware State Fair...where do I began? It's deep fried heaven, funnel cakes, cheese cakes, snickers...you get the point!?

In March after four years of not exercising or watching what I eat I got serious about losing weight. I wanted to lose 60 pounds and I would be at the weight I was when I met my husband, six and a half years ago. That's right in six years, I have gained around 10 pounds a year (I also had a kid so I still have some of that baby weight).  I blame a lot of that on not having an active lifestyle. I went from leading an active life style, going to the gym, playing softball to working a desk job and then coming home cooking dinner for Daniel and I and then just sitting in front of the TV with him while we watched one of oru favorite shows on the DVR.

So in March I joined My Fitness Pal, a great website! With the help of MFP's Android app, MFP's online support community, going to the gym and working out at home, I lost 17 pounds in a little under three months.  Then in mid May things got a bit crazy.  My mother in law who had been battling cancer for the last three years took a turn for the worse and went on Hospice care.  Instead of going to the gym I was trying to spend as much time with her as possible.  Daniel and I worried about convenience for dinner and not how healthy our food was.  We wanted something we could eat quickly so we could be over to his mom's to spend time with her.  My mother in law lost her battle with cancer on May 19th (which was also our four year wedding anniversary).  The weeks following friends and family brought us all kinds of food, casseroles, sandwich and meat trays, lasagna so I drowned my sorrow with food and lots of wine.

Once summer came we were running here and there going to a picnic, having drinks with friends or going to see one of my cousin's little league games.  In July I recommitted myself to losing weight, I did great until July fifth when my dad called me early in the morning to tell me my grandmother had died.  My grandmother who I was extremely close with, I saw her at least twice a week and talked to her on the phone almost every day. It was like deja vu.  What I was eating didn't matter, what mattered was that I was surrounded by family.  Once again the casseroles, meat trays, lasagna and desserts poured in and I was back to not caring about what I was putting in my mouth.

Well, September is a new month, a new season.  I need to lose this weight so I will be happy with me.  Surprisingly I only gained five of the seventeen pounds I lost back, but I can feel in my clothes that I gained more then just a few inches back.  Starting today (yes I know today is still August) I am going to start eating right, I am going to the gym after work to do the bootcamp class I used to look forward to and maybe tomorrow I will dust off my 30 Day Shred DVD and get reacquainted with my old friend, Jillan.

I'll keep you posted on my journey, I will need all the support I can get!

Hurricane Baby

At almost exactly 2:30 am on Sunday morning right as the eye of Hurricane Irene was over Camden, Delaware one of my best friends, Emma's water broke.  That's right during the one of the worst hurricanes Delaware has seen in years my friend goes into labor, three weeks early.  Just her luck.  To make it even better, by the time she got to the hospital she was already nine centimeters dilated, which means no epidural for Emma.  Emma cried. It hurt the first time she gave birth to her now 23 month old son, Gage and she had an epidural then. Poor Emma. I know some of you push the natural child birth thing, and that's great, but like Emma the first thing I asked for when I was told Cecilia was ready to come was the epidural.

Anyway, Emma's little one didn't waste anytime come into this world. Emma pushed three times and out came a beautiful baby girl weighing 7 lbs. and 4 ounces. Now I know many of you are wondering if Emma named said baby, Irene or maybe even Hurricane?  In Emma's words, HELL NO!

Ladies and gents, I introduce Ms. Bella Cruz (Cruz is her middle name not last name)

Since ya know we were in the middle of a hurricane and I couldn't rush to the hospital yesterday morning when Emma's husband, Shaun sent the text that Bella had arrived  But you can bet that as soon as I got the opportunity yesterday (on my lunch hour) I went over to the hospital to meet Cecilia's future sister in law (Emma and Shaun and Daniel and I have already prearranged that Cecilia will marry Bella's big brother, Gage).

Ms. Bella is gorgeous just like her mommy! She has dark hair and gorgeous blue eyes..

Bella loved making silly faces for me (when she did finally wake up!)

And here I am holding Bella Cruz (please ignore my hair, it looks horrible... I was no in the mood to style it after a sleepeless weekend yesterday morning).

Bella and mommy will hopfully get to come home and join daddy and big brother, Gage hopefully sometime this afternoon!

By the way I totally have baby fever and want another one sooooo bad, but that will have to wait.

Bye Bye Irene

Hurricane Irene came and went and Delaware got off pretty easily.  Some areas had a lot of flooding, but we were one of the few states that didn't get hit very hard.  We only lost power once and that was on Saturday afternoon before the storm was really here.

Here's pictures that I took on Sunday after Irene visited our little neck of the woods:
My house (after Irene), luckily the only damage were small branches that fell down!

A bridge less then a mile from my house

More bridge pictures

A bridge about five miles from my house

My silly husband!

My hometown in Maryland...

The carnival grounds in my hometown under water.

My friend took pictures two hours after I did and the road sign was covered.

So sad. :(

Evacuation Route? I think not..

Back road near my house

A closed road (three miles from my house)

Part of one of my grandfather's rental properties

A bridge 2 miles from my house

And one of my favorite pictures from the weekend, before we were stuck inside for 20 plus hours because of Irene, we visited my parents. Here Cecilia is giving my dad a hug bye before he went to work to protect the people of my hometown from Irene.

I hope all of you that were in Irene's path are safe and that you or any of your loved ones didn't have any major damage to your homes.

Me :)

Hi, I'm Mindy.  Welcome to my blog. This is my second attempt at blogging, I blogged for a little two years during my pregnancy and first year of being a mother, but then life got in the way and I needed a break.  Well, I'm back and I am ready to recommit myself to blogging.  I miss it, I miss documenting my daughter's milestones (somewhere other then her baby book), I miss my "blogger" friends, but most of all I miss this outlet.  I miss having a place where I can express how I feel and not be judged (well I am probably judged, but if I don't like what you have to say, I have the ability to delete it.)

So about me?
